Activities Implemented by EPSS

Due to mismatch of national and political interest, war and conflict have occurred within and among countries for many years including today. As a result, the life of a number of personnel has been lost, public property has been destroyed, large scale displacement has happened and insecure environment has been created. The impact of the war was not merely during the war, but also it was after the conflict when innocent people have become victims of the ERW. The last two years’ conflict in the Northern part of Ethiopia is a good example that mainly affected three regions, the Tigray, the Amhara and the Afar regions. Thus, a number of community members are affected by land mines and explosive remnants of war (ERW) in the specific areas where the conflicts occurred. To this end, EPSS was established at this critical time aiming at creating lifesaving EORE to rescue people. Accordingly, in the past two years, EPSS delivered risk education to more than 64,000 beneficiaries in the Afar and the Amhara regions. EPSS has recently deployed five teams in two regions (Afar and Tigray) to deliver risk education to affected IDPs and host communities. As a result, it has conducted EORE for more than 10000 beneficiaries so far. For this success, regional, zonal, woreda administration, donors and other partners as well have played significant role and we would like to convey our deep gratitude and appreciation.
